Nigel Marsh explains that “certain job and career choices are incompatible with being meaningfully engaged on a daily basis with a young family.” He jokingly states that casual Friday is not going solve this problem and outside entities aren’t going to help you. He explains you have to take ownership over your personal life and schedule.
He gave a fabulous example of realistically attaining a balanced life. He left 1 hour early from work to pick up his son because his wife requested it. He took his son to the playground, took him out for pizza, then read his son 1 chapter of a book, and put him to bed. His son then tells him it was the best evening of his life. This is such an important lesson for parents. A little bit makes a big difference. We don’t need to completely reorganize our lives, we just need a few significant hours.
